High Atlas Valleys trek: An amazing 5-day hike in Ait Boulli Valley and Ait Bouguemez Valley in the Central High Atlas Mountains. This trek will take you to discover two magnificent valleys, Ait Boulli and the Ait Bougmez Valleys, with nights spent in traditional lodges. The Central High Atlas valleys are renowned for the beauty of their villages and the warm welcome of the inhabitants.

We begin the trek from Aït Boulli Valley into a pastoral universe of sheepfolds and pasture plateaus. From Tafanfant, we have a superb view of the second valley, Aït Bougmez, also called “Happy Valley”, fertile, with earthen roof villages and welcoming and warm people. Two different valleys for an authentic route, built for hikers who want to exchange, share and experience the daily life of these proud and endearing mountaineers.

Itinerary of High Atlas Valleys trek

Day 1Marrakech – Demnate – Iminifri – Central High Atlas Mountains – Ait Boulli

After breakfast, we leave Marrakech and head towards Demnate. We will take a break in the small village of Iminifri, then a short walk into this fantastic natural site (the natural bridge). Then, we visit traces of Dinosaurs after Tizi troubadour village. We continue by a mountainous road towards the red valley of Ait Boulli. Arrival at our lodge in Ait Boulli. In the afternoon, we will have time to discover the village and get in touch with the daily life of the Berbers. 5 hour drive. Overnight in a local Berber Guesthouse.

Day 2Ait Boulli Valley – Tafenfant Plateau – Arouss Valley

Early morning, we start with a beautiful 3.5-hour climb to the Tafenfant plateau—meeting nomads with their herds of goats and sheep in the High Atlas. Our cook in the middle of nature will prepare a lovely lunch. After two hours of walking by a path that descends to the beautiful Arouss village. 6 hours walk. Overnight in a Guesthouse.

Day 3 Arouss - Agouti – Aguerd N'ouzrou – Ait Imi

In the morning, we leave towards Agouti, then Idoukalen at the foot of the collective attic of Sidi Chita. We cross the fields of maize wheat, apple trees, poplars, and walnut trees. Slowly, we will take the time to observe the daily work of the villagers in the fields and small grain mills—dinner and night at the Guesthouse at Ait Imi village—5 h walk.

Day 4Ait Imi – Dinosaur Tracks Visit – Adazene mountains – Timit

After breakfast, we will hike to the village of Ibaquallioune, where we can explore its old granary in the heart of the village. We will also visit its prehistoric remains, including the traces of dinosaurs. Then we will undertake a 300-meter climb towards the Adazene mountains. Our lunch break will be in the middle of nature. After that, we will make a slight ascent to the collective attic and the marabout of Sidi Moussa, a revered saint known for caring for spiritual illnesses. The building offers a magnificent view of the three directions of Ait Bougmez. 5 hour’s walk. We spend the last night in a local Guesthouse.

Day 5Timit – Azilal – Ouzoud waterfalls – Marrakech

After breakfast, we will leave the High Atlas towards Azilal by taking a different route. We will have the opportunity to visit the spectacular Ouzoud waterfalls, about 110 meters high. Ouzoud waterfalls are three stages, located on the Oued Ouzoud, at an altitude of 1060 meters in the Middle Atlas in Morocco. We arrive in Marrakech in the afternoon. 5 hours drive. End of  5-day High Atlas Valleys trek.
