Discover the 5-day Saghro Trek in Morocco, an immersive hiking adventure through the pre-Saharan Saghro mountain range in southern Morocco. Djebel Saghro, with its striking geology, offers rugged landscapes of jagged plateaus, cliffs, deep gorges, sharp peaks, and towering escarpments, often crossed by camel caravans. Boxwood bushes and monolithic formations enhance its wild beauty, while the winds carry whispers of the nearby Sahara. From September to May, this region between the Valley of Roses and the Draa Oasis welcomes visitors to its arid, lunar-like terrain. Standing at 2,712 meters, it’s also home to the Aït Atta people, who graze their goats and live in Bedouin tents, adding a touch of life to this majestic land.
Duration: 5 days
Period: From September to May
Trek Grade: Medium
Maximum Elevation: 2,509 Meters
Accommodation: Guesthouse and Camping
Early departure towards Ouarzazate via the Tizi N’Tichka Pass. After exploring the Dades Valley and its thousand kasbahs, we continue south across a desert plateau to the village of Tagdilt. Overnight with a local family at 1,650m. 6 hours of driving.
We start the trek as the mules are loaded. After crossing a vast plateau, we begin the ascent to the Tizi N’Iferd Pass (2,400m), offering a beautiful view of the Central High Atlas Mountains. We then descend to the Iferd Plateau. Camp setup on a plateau often visited by semi-nomadic Ait Atta transhumants. Overnight in tents at 2,250m. 5 hours of walking.
We enjoy a scenic ascent to the Kouaouch summit (2,600m), which doesn’t require technical equipment. Our cook will prepare a picnic. We descend through Tassegdilt. Overnight in tents at Igli at 1,700m. 6 hours of walking.
We cross the Tadaout N’Tablah plateau, a surreal rocky cirque. We then reach the famous Bab N’Ali (1,416m), a landscape of sculpted pinnacles in Precambrian metamorphic sandstone, forming stunning and gigantic shapes. The two main pinnacles create a sort of giant doorway (Bab). Overnight in tents. 5 hours of walking.
After thanking our mule team, we meet our driver for the transfer via the road to N’kob. We continue through the Draa Valley and the town of Agdez before crossing the Tichka Pass. Lunch after the pass. Return to Marrakech in the afternoon. 6 hours of driving.
The 5-day Saghro trek offers a unique alternative to a 5-day safari trek, leading you through desert plateaus, canyons, and Berber villages in southern Morocco. Ideal for adventure seekers, it combines stunning landscapes with rich cultural experiences.
